Growth of the Sport: Te Puke Summer 2025
Share
We’re two weeks into our Friday Night Disc Golf League at Donovan Park in Te Puke, and it’s already shaping up to be something pretty special. With long summer evenings, great vibes, new players and some seriously hot rounds being thrown, this league is exactly what we love about disc golf in the Bay of Plenty.
The league runs every Friday at 6pm, making the most of the long, warm summer nights. Each league night features two rounds, giving everyone plenty of time to put down a hot round, chances to improve, and time to connect with other local players—whether you’re brand new to the sport or have been throwing for years, come along!
One of the big focuses of this league is accessibility and enjoyment. We’ve got CTP (Closest to the Pin) prizes each week, and we’re also running season-long prizes that reward more than just raw scores. Things like most improved player and attendance matter to us, because growing the sport means encouraging consistency, progression, and showing up for the community.
We’re also bringing disc golf a little closer to home by setting up a Mando Disc Golf pop-up stand at the course. This gives players a chance to check out discs in person, feel different plastics, ask questions, and see what’s actually available—something that’s not always easy to do in the Bay. It’s been awesome watching players throw a round, chat discs, and then head back out with something new to try.
And let’s be honest… the golf has been hot. We’ve already seen some very tidy rounds, and yes—there’s even been an ace!. Nothing fires up a league night like watching someone smash one straight into the chains.
At its core, this league is about growing disc golf in Te Puke and the wider Bay of Plenty, making the sport, welcoming, accessible and social. Whether you’re chasing personal bests, learning the game, or just keen for a fun way to spend a Friday night outdoors, you’re welcome to come along.
If you’re interested in joining in, keep an eye on our blog, emails, and socials for ongoing league updates, highlights, and info on upcoming events. We’re stoked to see where this league goes—and even more stoked to see disc golf continuing to grow right here in our backyard.
